Heathfield & District Bonfire Society was successfully reformed in 2018 by a group of friends and bonfire enthusiasts. Thanks to their hard work and that of a lot of willing volunteers, in 2019 the first Bonfire society event was held in Heathfield in 62 years. Bonfire is a long standing tradition in Sussex, with its twin aims of bringing the community out to celebrate and raising money for charity. The event in 2019 was so well received by the local community who came out to support despite the terrible weather that planning was well underway for the 2020 event when along came COVID-19.
We don’t want 2020 to pass without celebrating this tradition in some way and attempting to raise some money for charity as we would have done on our night. So we are putting on a virtual celebration on our facebook page and using Crowdfunder. Any money raised will be split between HDBS and the RNLI, the charity chosen by our members.
Our chosen charity is the RNLI, our Royal National Lifeboat Institution which saves lives at sea across the coasts of the UK & Ireland. https://rnli.org/
For HDBS the money raised will help towards us planning and putting on an event in 2021, bringing together the community of Heathfield and surrounding area in a night of celebrating a local tradition.
