Our Aim: Our aim is to improve the everyday life of elderly individuals & people with disabilities by providing vital transportation links so this crowdfunding project has been started in aid of generating sufficient funds to enable Hull Council of Disabled People's charity to purchase a minibus. This is a self- funded and registered charity. It is difficult for many individuals such as the elderly and people with disabilities to access commercial/public transport services in a hassle free way. This is not just in this area but in all communities and in all areas of the UK.
This scheme is aimed at increasing the independence and mobility of:
- People with disabilities (physical or learning disabilities or mental health problems)
- Older people which will encourage them to maintain their independence
- Other people who experience difficulties getting out and about
Overview: The Hull Council of Disabled People (HCDP) is a charitable organisation serving the needs of disabled, elderly and vulnerable people in the Hull area. It was conceived during the International year of Disabled people in 1981, and opened its centre in 1983. This multifunctional centre is the base for promoting independent living for people with disabilities in the Hull area. We promote all aspects relating to the welfare of disabled, elderly and vulnerable people including education, health and poverty issues which are deemed charitable by law within the Kingston Upon Hull area. We do this by empowering our clients, providing free impartial, confidential accurate and practical advice services for disabled and vulnerable people and other organisations.
- Registered Charity No. 1082470
- Registered Company No. 04016363
Short Term Goals: For volunteer drivers and assistants to collect members from their homes in the morning and taken back home in the afternoon and spend the day (approx 3-4 hours) at the HCDP center where games and stimulating activities are available, benefit help, advice and support is offered, a cafe where hot and cold, home-made meals are available throughtout the day and a large shopping area where new and used items are sold. All staffed by committed volunteers who provide social dialogue and companionship throughout the day.
Long Term Goals: Including the short term goals and leading onto the following. To promote independence among members by offering direct travel from door to local destination, to doctor/hospital appointments, shopping and more. This would enable members to no longer be dependent on family members, carers or taxis at ever increasing costs. This will also provide the opportunity to reaffirm social interaction and connectedness outside the care environment.
This is a vital service which will ensure a key section of our community are looked after. Whats important about this service is that we all have a vested interest to carry it into the future and secure its survival as we will all benefit from it in the future. We are a self funded charity so rely solely upon donations and our volunteers to keep our charity up and running. Although we are stepping up our fundraising campaigns we would like to add that we appreciate any and all donations made to the Hull Council of Disabled People, without the help of you we wouldnt be able to provide the services we do which benefit many individuals in and around Hull. So we thank you whole heartedly and are so very grateful to have such amazing support.
