I have worked in the leisure industry for 10 years and have noticed an unwillingness to evolve past traditional word of mouth promotion, flyers and posters, as well as a reluctance to embrace new technologies when providing on-site entertainment.
I've developed my first bar concept recently, which involves embracing social media promotion, and new technologies to provide entertainment within venues.
Kevin's was developed as an unbranded concept as a personal tribute to a late friend. Out went the poor decor of the previous venue, in came a bar which embodied someone's personality. Red walls within the customer seating area embody Kevin's favourite colour, Ocean Blue walls within the bar servery embody Kevin's favourite cocktail, and a collage of celebrity faces within the VIP booth embody his favourite sitcom, Absolutely Fabulous.
I've done away with distracting window signs from the previous incarnation of the venue in order to give passers by more reason to look in. I will be introducing a meeting room above the bar later this year in order to provide meeting space to local small businesses. I've also been pushing to get necessary building repairs sorted, so that the business is better maintained going forward.
When customers purchase drinks at the bar, our staff are not only trained to provide a world class service, but are also trained to take requests for songs, which are then queued for the customer's enjoyment.
The reaction to the venue has been amazing beyond belief. We've had people apply for jobs with us that previously ignored the venue in their search for work, we've had people mention on social media that they didn't even know there was a bar at this particular location, and we've even been talked about by local businesses who are excited about the venue finally having a team behind it who "Actually know what they are doing." - Owner of New Yicken Chinese Takeaway, Dorking.
We've also developed 2 LGBT concepts which will be rolled out across the UK to stem the downturn of LGBT venues. Angel's is our LGBT bar brand, developed in tribute to The Angel LGBT Pub in Stratford. Rainbow is our LGBT nightclub brand, developed to be bright, welcoming and respectful of the entire LGBT community. We'll be rolling these concept out through acquisitions of existing LGBT venues as well as acquisitions of non-LGBT venues that are no longer trading.
Aside from our LGBT concepts, we've also developed a 21st century social club concept, Social&More. We've earmarked a site in Barking, Greater London for development of this 2-room bar and function room concept and will hopefully be completing the acquisition of this site in mid 2019.
Finally, we've developed the healthy eating cafe concept, Foodbox, named so because we are looking to acquire spaces within gyms where we can serve healthy food to those who have utilised the gym's facilities. We've identified 3 possible locations in Southend On Sea, which will all be viewed and whittled down to what we feel is the perfect site.
We're actively seeking new acquisitions across the UK, not only to create positive change within the leisure industry, but to create further employment opportunities in areas that are being overlooked.
We've put together a list of target towns for venue acquisition, which is changing weekly to include more target towns as we find areas.
