Hastings Bonfire Celebration 16th October 2021 needs your support. We need to fundraise for ourselves and our local charities.

Our bigger plans are to have our own land so that we coppice the wood we need and present firework displays to the public without paying for the huge logistic costs we have for having our event along the seafront.

Hastings Borough Society is made of volunteers who work tirelessly all year to bring a free evening of colour and spectacle in the darkening nights. Our Bonfire Celebration takes place in Hastings Week which is the week that contains the 14th October- the date of the Battle of Hastings. On our night we present a traditional Sussex Bonfire Celebration which commemorates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to promote  freedom and to exercise our democratic rights.

Hastings  torchlit prcession is the longest single Bonfire procession in the county. It weaves from St Leonards, through the town centre, the Old Town and back to the seafront. We march to reclaim our own streets and we are very proud to represent our town. With our giant Guy Fawkes we lead the local dignitaries, the other visiting Bonfire Societies and various other groups. During the procession we stop at the Cyril and Lilian Bishop lifeboat to salute the lifesaving work of this Hastings boat on our seas and in Dunkirk. We also stop to remember those who died in war at Swan Gardens.  Most importantly we collect for local charities and ourselves - it is this aspect that means that we may not be able to continue.

We then light a huge bonfire on the beach to bring us together in the light and warmth of gathering around a fire complete with small Guys made by local children.

Finally, we all enjoy a most spectacular beach launched firework display including the fun of exploding an effigy (either in celebration or mockery of a local event).

During the year we provide assistance and equipment to various other major events  and charities in the town.

The money you help us to raise will mean that we can continue our activities by presenting our wonderful evening to residents and visitors, and bring energy to the town after the summer season has finished. We will use the money to pay directly into putting on our event- logistics, equipment, first aid, torches and fireworks etc.
