We are the parents of Harrison Rose; an energetic, happy, kind and generous four-year-old boy who has always struggled with his hearing. Whilst this condition is not life-threatening it is life-limiting. He has been waiting since last May for his NHS operation which keeps getting delayed due to nationwide NHS bed shortages. The operation would be life-changing for him and would enable him to start school on a positive note. We are asking for help raising funds as we are going to pay for him to have the operation privately. His speech has not developed as it should and he speaks in staccato tones where his words are disjointed and often incomprehensible. As his parents we often spend time translating what he has said to other people and then telling him what people are saying in response. He cups his hand behind his ear to hear people better and wears headphones to hear the TV. Whilst he is a wonderful boy his behaviour sometimes suffers too as he gets frustrated when he can't communicate with us or others effectively. Due to his poor hearing he has to sleep with someone as he hates being alone at night because he feels scared and vulnerable. He has so much to offer and this is really holding him back.
