Illuminating Harlesden – Year 2: Phase 1
It’s now year two of our ambitious project! To build upon last year’s successes we are once again asking for pledges to continue our campaign to help bring together our community and restore even more festive lighting to Harlesden High Street.
In 2017 (year 1) the Harlesden Festive Lights Cooperative (HFLC) - a collective of representatives made up of local residents, traders, community groups and councillors - successfully raised over £11000 to bring back after many years festive lights and a Christmas tree to the heart of Harlesden.
Reintroducing festive lights has long been an ambition of many residents and shop owners in Harlesden in order to enhance surroundings, increase traders’ footfall and galvanise the community by celebrating festivals such as Christmas, Divali, and Hanukah.
HFLC has created strong partnerships with festive lights supplier High Level electrics, Harlesden High Street Manager Grace Nelson and the Old Oak Development Corporation (OPDC) who along with our Crowdfunder campaign enabled us to reach our target in year 1.
Our target included upgrading the existing high street infrastructure to deliver a Christmas tree and 11 brand new LED energy efficient lamp post banner motif style lights. These contemporary and stylish lights ran from Harlesden’s famous Jubilee Clock to the Harlesden Library.
In year 2 and 3 we aim to work with new and existing partners to extend the lights further along the High Street from the Jubilee clock and towards Park Parade. Unfortunately the existing lamp post infrastructure also needs a lot of work and so we have another ambitious target of at least £10000 to reach.
We proved last year that this size of target is achievable with the help of our fantastic and enthusiastic local residents, businesses and partners, we hope that everyone will once again get on board and continue to help illuminate Harlesden!
So please make a pledge if you can – you will be an essential part of continuing a true community fuelled festive season for Harlesden in 2018 and beyond!
