The Hampshire County Youth Wind Ensembles is a pyramid of ensembles providing musical and enrichment opportunities, such as concerts, workshops and residential weekends, to more than 150 youth players, from all sorts of backgrounds in Hampshire. The pyramid includes a training ensemble, percussion ensemble, flute choir, double reed ensemble and the senior wind ensemble.
It's evident that playing music in a group brings confidence and enjoyment to the players and truly changes their lives. It's great to watch the players tentatively start their musical journey, progress to confidently leading music in their county; and then inspiring younger players to follow them. It’s also acknowledged that playing music in ensembles supports academic success and improves mental health.
Our vision is to enable Hampshire County Youth Wind Ensemble to visit and perform in either Scandinavia or Canada in the summer of 2020. The ensemble will perform with local wind bands and experience local culture, visiting significant landmarks and cultural sites in the area and promote British culture. The audiences in either country will be big, knowledgeable and appreciative.
The tour will cost £80,000. To make this affordable for everyone, we need to raise around £20,000. We’d like to make the trip as inclusive as possible and so money raised will be used to support those on low incomes, transport instruments, provide in-country transport and rent larger instruments such as tubas and percussion during the trip.
