My name is Jewels.
I am the founder of this much needed community project to which I am dedicated. My purpose for creating Gwyn Derwen is to help carers of children and adults on the Autistic spectrum.
As the mother of a high functioning autistic (Aspergers) child, with 29 years of experience and understanding of this condition as a full time sole carer, I am very aware of the needs of those who are in an often isolating and continually demanding role. Driven by the will of love when there is nothing and no one to help you just keep going.
In these times of difficulty we are all presently facing, any form of assistance for carers presently available, though sadly highly inadequate in availability and true understanding of what is involved in the role nor the actual impact on health and the well~being of the carer, is in itself dwindling rapidly.
In contrast to my adult mostly urban living, my first 19 years of life experience on a smallholding in Scotland, surrounded by nature,woodlands and a peaceful atmosphere, has greatly influenced my conclusion that creating similar for respite facilities is vital.
From the skills and knowledge I have gained through a varied career, including long periods with no earned income, as well as being a member of small local and larger communities, experiencing the lack of support in any form of respite or break from my vocation fueled the need for this project. Specifically for non-paid carers.
A place of healing and rest is being created where worn out and exhausted carers can regain energy and skills to improve their general well-being to carry on.
The project will.....
~Involve the local and wider community through the provision of opportunities for voluntary and paid work throughout the entire duration of this long-term-ongoing project.
~improve community and carer health and well~being by healing through participation in onsite activities aimed specifically toward mental and emotional balancing.
~ provide varied holistic therapies and workshops such as healing, massage, mediation and yoga classes, all aimed to give de~stressing techniques and health improvements.
~talks and courses to aid and improve the day to day understanding and functioning not only for the wider community but specifically for carers consequently giving them support in varied forms.
~Ultimately to provide a calm and peaceful environment where carers can recuperate.
Our major initial company task is to enable the above and more
by implementing primary activities such as.....
~Fund raising to;
~Acquire land /woodland,
~Build/acquire dwellings for;
A place to meet other carers,
Forge friendships with common goals.
~Part of this project will include organic produce.
~Options of gaining gardening skills,tips and crafting ideas will be made available throughout all seasons.
~The produce will be shared with those on respite as well as the wider community
We are offering a free package to carers which includes accommodation, a calm peaceful recuperating nature environment, optional holistic healing therapies, education ~ in particular relating to the role as carer, participation in woodland management, conservation and much more.
Access to the onsite café, shop, central hub activities, organic produce and artisan items are also available to the local and wider community as part of the income to support our provision of respite....
With your help through crowdfunding all the above can happen.
We already have a large number of enquiries from carers desparate for a break who have absolutely no means to do so.
I thank you all in advance no matter how much you can afford to donate to the project for your generosity and support.
