GW Scott started in 1661 and in 1851 invented the modern picnic basket. We are using crowdfunded spread awareness of GW Scott and let you picnic with us at some exclusive picnic experiences this summer.
How It Started
GW Scott opened its first store in London, England in 1661. In 1851 the company invented the wicker picnic basket, which was both a revolutionary product and very much of-the-time. It was first shown during the Princes Alberts Great Exhibition, which was held in Crystal Palace of Hyde Park in Central London.
GW Scott still make exquisite picnic baskets and hampers. As a fine example of the continuation of British craftsmanship, the wicker for our baskets is grown in England and then woven into hampers by craftspeople who have a long tradition working with this most versatile of materials. All of the items contained within a GW Scott hamper are made in the UK using the best materials and are constructed by the best craftsmen.
The hampers and baskets are made for you to enjoy, share and to create wonderful experiences with your friends and family.
How Stuart Got Involved
Stuart went to London college of fashion and studied menswear. After this he freelanced and ending up designing accessories for British heritage brands like Thomas Pink, Pringle, Aquascutum and Hackett. How ever he wanted to create his own brand and there for decided revive the story of a forgotten British brand. One day by chance, in an archive in the City of London he came across GW Scott. After researching it more he found out how important it was as its history of Picnics, So set about reviving it and tell its story. He love British heritage brands and love telling the story of the brand.
Everything we do is hand crafted. The wicker is grown by the same family who grew willow for GW Scott 150 years ago. We handcraft this willow in to beautiful baskets. All the products inside are made in the UK. We work with partners who share the same values as us from ceramics to vodka. By working with brands and craft people with same values as us it allows to understand where everything originates: from who grows the willow; to the family that the raw clay comes from, that goes in to our ceramics; even to the tea growers that grow our tea for the picnics.
