Chard RFC is based in Somerset and is regarded to be an under privileged area in terms of sports facilities and has high unemployment and the rugby club recognises it has an important role to provide a quality club for social gatherings. So the challenge is raising funds Against that backdrop. Our number one strategy is to provide exciting rugby so that the community will come and Support the teams. That strategy has 3 legs, recruitment, top class coaching and pitches. This project is aimed at playing surfaces.
We need to have great playing and training facilities and surfaces that will bring more talent and improve the minis and juniors which will then bring exciting rugby to Chard which will bring in more people to support the club and that will bring in much needed funds to to the club.
We have an experienced, ageing, groundsman and he needs new mowers aeration machine and strimmers to meet our target of improvement to our grounds. We can’t expect him to provide top class pitches without giving him the right equipment to achieve this target.
If we exceed our financial target we will start the improvements in the changing and showering unit aimed and lighting for pitches used by our mini’s and juniorjat providing specific facilities that is required by our female teams. We have over 260 youngsters from 6 to 18; male and female. We have 4 senior sides and 2 ladies teams, this section of the club is currently expanding.
We have appointed coaches with premiership background as well as international experience. So recruiting and coaching is being achieved hence the need to complete our strategy to provide equipment to improve the playing surfaces.
