We are a new project set up by 3 women in the East of England. We are seeking to become a registered charity with the aim of enabling communities to understand climate change and how it will affect them. We want to raise awareness and support for climate action. There are lots and lots of strands to our project varying from tree and flower planting, education, food waste, energy saving, to hosting community events and lobbying government for real climate action across England in line with the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations Paris Agreement.
We are working with schools to establish the areas of climate change unsupported by the curriculum to deliver a free learning programme in after school clubs. We aim to develop free learning for mature students too and will be working with the local university to do so.
Climate change continues to affect agriculture: food shortages and rising costs will affect the most vulnerable. We currently work with a family-run Italian Deli & restaurant sharing their surplus food with our community. We have registered with food waste reduction movements to receive additional surplus food to share with the community.
We have arranged support from a Home Energy Assessors to offer reduced price home energy assessments, we hope to offer free energy assessments for families with low incomes. We have begun working with Eco retailers to offer benefits & discounts & will continue to work with more. We want to campaign to get renewable home energy to people that can’t afford it; this will involve grant applications & developing relationship with suppliers to obtain reduced cost technologies that can be installed in community homes.
We are working with local and central government to campaign for clearer climate commitment and policy at every level. We are self-funded volunteers at this stage. We want to be a registered charity but need support and funding from the climate activists all over the world to get off the ground.
