Green MP for North Surrey

North Surrey Green Party is looking to raise money to run candidates in Spelthorne and Runnymede & Weybridge.

We did it!

On 30th Mar 2015 we successfully raised £1,185 of £1,000 target with 34 supporters in 49 days

New stretch target

Thank you for making our project successful! We now have the money to stand candidates in both Spelthorne and Runnymede & Weybridge.

However, we still need to raise a further £800 per constituency to pay for enough leaflets to go through every door. The first £1000 only allows us the right to appear on the ballot paper. A further £1,600 will allow us to reach every voter in North Surrey and help us retain our £500 deposit.

North Surrey Green Party raising money to run candidates in Spelthorne and Runnymede & Weybridge.

We need your help to raise £1000 to enable us to put up candidates in the Spelthorne and Runnymede & Weybridge Constituencies in the General Election and run a strong campaign.

The Green Party doesn't have the same level of financial backing that other parties have, so we lack the money required to stand MPs all over the UK. We experienced a massive surge in support in 2014, with our membership more than doubling; however we don't have big corporate or union funding!

Despite this, Brighton and Hove elected Caroline Lucas as their MP (who was recently voted Parliamentarian of the Year); and we in the South East successfully voted in Keith Taylor as our Green MEP for the South East last year. They are both fantastic and we need more people like them in politics. Now we've got 2 brilliant local candidates who want to stand for Parliament in the General Election: Paul Jacobs for Spelthorne and Rustam Majainah for Runnymede & Weybridge. All we need now is your help!

The fee to stand as MP is £500 per constituency. Apparently this is to deter those who are not serious, but the reality is that it ensures only a certain type of person can stand, preventing those without the backing of multimillionaires or large unions from getting anywhere. With your help we might just stand a chance to take part and get our voice heard.

This is about fairness and quality which, at present, don't seem to exist within our democratic system. The Greens have now overtaken the Lib Dems in many opinion polls so we should now expect fair coverage. Standing as many candidates as possible will help to achieve this and we believe we can do it with YOUR HELP!

Locally we have to fight the challenges of airport expansion, particularly in Stanwell and Stanwell Moor as well as challenging planned road and rail changes, along with noise and pollution, especially Surrey County Council's plan to build a waste incinerator in a populated area. Flood alleviation has been promised, and we need to ensure the plans are fit for purpose, environmentally safe, and that promised money is made available for the project. Our green belt and other open sites are at risk from development and mineral extraction, while brown field sites are lying waste.

Nationally we need to fund more new doctors and nurses coming into the NHS, rather than poaching these resources from overseas countries who are struggling to maintain healthcare. Many of the services we rely on have been cut to breaking point, and these need to be rebuilt. We are the only party to have radically alternative plans for taxation and welfare. We all have a responsibility to limit climate change, we need to set an example and play a more active role in brokering global agreement. Sadly, leaving a safe environment and planet to future generations is not being realistically addressed by any other political party.

We need to raise £1,000 for the two deposits, on top of more money to deliver a leaflet to every household. This will make sure that the Green Party message gets onto the doormats and kitchen tables of all voters in the two constituencies. Money raised beyond our target will be used to fund leaflets in our constituency and more campaigns across North Surrey.

Please show your support for the Greens and help us stand. If we could find 200 people willing to donate just £5 each we would be there.

Thanks for taking the time to look at our project, and hopefully also for your support!

(IMPORTANT: Donations of over £500 have to be reported to the electoral commission by the Green Party to ensure these donations are made by eligible donors; political parties may not accept donations from those not registered to vote.)
