I am a former British Army Non Commissioned Officer, I have studied Aviation Managent and am an entrepreneur hoping to start a Haulage company. It is a simple plan which allows us to take advantage a little known niche in the Road Haulage Industry. This is to buy a vehicle from Maritime Logistics and operate it as one of their subcontractors. They have a scheme called "buy with work" which guarantees that the vehicle will have work. As I have a Transport Manager's Qualification for the EU. I will initially drive the first vehicle but as the business expands I will look to employ young people (this includes young people who have left the Armed Forces) who are struggling to get an opportunity, they will be trained in Transport Operations and once trained they will be able to either move on to bigger companies like Tesco or get offered a job within the company. Should I find ex Army personnel that were drivers the aim is to train them to drive as efficiently as possible.
The expansion can happen organically but it is the start-up that is required. My passion for this project comes from the fact that nothing in the UK we consume, other than tap water, is not transported by a lorry, and there is a shortage of drivers in the UK. This will give the you both male and female, a chance of a career with an above average salary. I feel this would have been a great opportunity if it was available to me. So this would evolve into a place where young people can get training in a live profitable logistics company.
