We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed and made a success of the GO! Palace 'Let there be light' Campaign, we did it - we raised £15,000. Now the team here at the GO! Charity and on site at GO! Palace can make a start on the important first stage of wiring and electrical work in the main theatre before Christmas all thanks to you.
What have we achieved since the crowdfunder started?
We have had a really busy 6 weeks on site at the Palace Theatre, we are pleased to have welcomed the youth offending and youth services teams onto the site. The charity will be working with groups of young people on the site who will be supervised by youth services to gain work experience and skills within the theatre restoration. This is a great and unique opportunity and one we are firmly standing behind.
In support of the training and mentoring work GO! have now set up a youth training support service in Plymouth to offer opportunities with GO! Palace. We have had donated to us a huge amount of desks, chairs, computers and sofas to get us started. This is a huge step forward and we are looking forward to offering mentoring and support for young people in the city who can work with GO!.
Outside the building a lot of hard work has been carried out on the roof, this is ready for the flashing to be done until the roof can be completely stripped back and replaced in about 18 months time.
Daniel Goad and the volunteers on site have been busy clearing away large areas of rubble and debris, we now have a clear floor area in the main theatre ready for the main work to begin with the wiring and lighting. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have been working so hard. This area is being worked on in preparation for Christmas and we currently have surveyors and structural engineers inspecting the building and making sure we are safe and meet all our requirements.
A huge thanks
We have had 2 organisations who have shown some fantastic support for the Palace Theatre in this crowdfunder who have been Stride Treglown Architects and Shred Creative. Both of these organisations have made a significant corporate donation and really have helped support this huge project in Plymouth. Thank you to both of these local organisations for their support. Also to Sarah Smalldon, local artist who has supported this project with the donation of two of her lovely sketches.
The restoration of the Palace Theatre is incredibly important, not just to save the building but also the huge journey to get there which will see so many exciting opportunities for young people to train and learn. We want to get everyone involved and be a part of this exciting project. We are still absolutely blown away by the love for Palace Theatre, so thank you to all of you for your support!
