My name is Tamara, I've come to crowdfunding to help kickstart a 10-year dream of growing and selling organic produce from my home county of Cornwall with my young boys and partner Harry.
Currently, I'm furloughed from my part-time job as a leisure center receptionist and on my summer break from being a full-time horticulture student at the Eden project. In September I am starting a forest school qualification with the Cornwall college group at Duchy college stoke climsland with the hope of expanding this knowledge into horticulture and eventually integrating it into growing and running after school groups for children to be immersed in the growing culture, an opportunity that is rarely come by in today's world of mass production. It is essential from a young age we learn to get our hands in the earth and be gifted with the knowledge of how to grow. I am hoping to run this alongside full-time small scale crop production. I've spent my time during lockdown growing tomatoes and now looking to start this career for myself but I need help.
The eventual goal is to make good quality exceptional tasting produce accessible for young families like us and also open the tunnel up for growing experience for young people. Being on a low income has always made it hard for us to access really good quality produce to feed ourselves on and over the years as I've started to grow more for myself I've realised I want to help more people like me access the quality food I've grown with an emphasis on soft fruit.
We are looking for help to purchase a commercial polytunnel that will make it possible for us too grow and produce all year round and eventually hit our local markets, kickstart a box scheme with a fruit twist, and help young people into horticulture.
We are experienced growers but have never been able to work for ourselves, this opportunity would give us a flying leap into the future and a means to start producing for our own goals.
We were hoping to purchase our own polytunnel this year but our savings have been used up by living through the corona pandemic.
We are looking for help in funding a commercial tunnel at the total cost of £4872.00 to begin our growing season next year. Please hit the link to see what we are looking for help to purchase.
