Older people have been badly effected by covid isolation, we need to help to reunite older people with each other and their community.

New stretch target

If we raise more than our target, we would cover more of the running costs of the Centre and salary of our Development Manager.

Who are Grey Matters Active Ageing?

Hello! We are a small grassroots charity with over 150 members ageing from 60- 98. We aim to reduce loneliness and isolation.  We formed in 2012 and became a charity in 2019. In 2020 we opened our Active Ageing Centre as a hub for older people in our area. We currently have one member of staff and a large group of active volunteers.

What do we do?

As you will see from the YouTube video, we are an active and engaged group. During lockdown we supported members via zoom, by telephone befriending and delivering activity packs.  We kept in telephone contact with people who were vulnerable and wanted someone to talk to, held remote competitions and held all of our groups online. Our members rose to the challenge of learning the new technology they needed.

What do we want to achieve?

May of our members are still very nervous about the risks of covid but know they need to carry on with their lives.

As we enter recovery we want to get people back out and about and to 'Reunite' them not only to each other but to the community. Funds raised will enable us to support existing members and enable us to identify new members.  We would be able to run groups, start new ones and make sure that no one is still stuck in a 'Covid Rut'. We would like to develop a volunteering program so that older people can feel empowered and volunteer their time and experience to benefit the wider community.

Our organisational aims are 'To Empower, to enrich and to enliven' lives of older people and with your help we will achieve this.  Thank you for reading!

“For me GMAA saved my life in so many ways, it gave me an extended family with people who look after your best interest and they have brought such happiness to my
life. Gave me the confidence to try lots of things I would never have attempted, and I found that I have a few hidden talents"
