A team from the GM Homes Partnership is running the Manchester 10K with colleagues from Housing, Health and Justice sectors to raise funds to support the Personalisation fund, enabling our participants to stop worrying about where they are going to sleep that night and focus on the things they love again.
GM Homes Partnership aims to work with the most entrenched rough sleepers across Greater Manchester through strength based, personalised, intensive support to realise their ambition and re-engage with society. We work with them to access and sustain a home, improve their income through accessing the correct benefit or enabling them to return to work, education and volunteering.
The personalisation fund is a key part of this, as the most important element of this project is empowerment; giving people back control of their lives, enabling individuals to feel valued again and helping them to remember their potential. For many of them this is the first time in years that someone has listened to them, asked what they want to achieve and refused to give up on them if it didn’t work the first time. You can see a little of that work in this video.
We use the fund to enable these choices so someone can chose their own crockery, bedding and curtains, and make their new house a home. We also use the fund to buy items to help people return to their passions, hobbies and interests.
One individual realised his negative behaviour and drug use was linked to feelings of a lack of purpose. He loved fishing as a child with his father but had been unable to go since he passed away, so we used the money to buy him a rod and tackle and he now spends all weekend doing what he loves and has remained drug free and out of trouble for 6 weeks.
Any support you are able to provide will make a significant difference in someone's life.
- This fund is administered by the GM Homes Partnership as a separate dedicated fund only used to buy personal items for the benefit / support of rough sleepers being housed.
- No part of the fund is used for the cost of administering GM Homes Partnership
