Glasgow Zine Fest 2018

Glasgow Zine Fest 2018

Glasgow Zine Fest, an annual community-based self-publishing festival that encourages attendees to make, share, and do.

We did it!

On 10th Apr 2018 we successfully raised £343 with 19 supporters in 42 days

Glasgow Zine Fest (GZF) is a weekend of workshops, screenings, talks and socials topped with the biggest self-publishing fair in Scotland.

Each year we partner a local maker in Glasgow to produce the design idenity for the festival. For GZF 2010 we have worked with RISOTTO — Scotland’s leading risograph print specialist, and stationery co. led by designer, Gabriella Marcella.

The 2018 festival, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April at CCA Glasgow, is our most ambitious yet with a range of events running in addition to our zine fair. Our events are the beating heart of GZF and as our festival grows, so does our zine fair as a platform for zine-makers and self-publishers.

Without additional financial support none of this would be possible! Donate and receive much thanks and plentiful limited edition merchandise. For more info. on what you will get, scroll to the bottom of this story...

What your support will help us deliver — #GZF18

During the fest. there will be opportunities for people of every skill level at a range zine-making workshops: a comic zine workshop led by BHP Comics; a feminist zine-making workshop led by Aylson Stewart; a children's printmaking workshop led by Louisa Winning encouraging them to 'make a friend smile'. After their successful poetry workshop last year, Glasgow-based RAUM will be back focusing on writing, editing, and publishing poetry.  Design by ZAG and Ssssstudio will be leading design workshops dealing with creating zines and typography.

Talks this year will come from OOMK, who will be discussing their collection of Malaysian zines; dardishi, an online zine for Arab women will be guiding people through the process of online self-publishing, Adele Patrick, founder of Glasgow Women's Library, will be in conversation with researcher and curator Sarah Lowndes and archivist Elizabeth O'Brien about the radical potential of collecting and archiving protest materials; artist-led Glasgow institution Transmission will discuss attempts to transform the politics and potential of the institution and the highs and lows of artist-run activity.

In the evenings, we have partnered with Scottish Queer International Film Festival to deliver a film screening each night, and during the daytime, we will have zine libraries on display from Glasgow Women's Library and Edinburgh Zine Library.
