This Christmas as we wake up in our warm homes, surrounded by our loved ones, enjoy glorious food that will only be half eaten, open our gifts and watch the joy in our families faces as they open their gifts that we have spent a fortune on, there will be many other people waking up alone, cold, hungry with no other option and nowhere to go.
As I reflect on how lucky we all are, It makes me sad to know that these people go un-noticed everyday.
This year I would like to ask all my friends and family to take a second to think about someone else who is in more need.
I would like to ask that this Christmas you DO NOT spend money on buying me and my family a gift but instead donate a little something that will make the world of difference to someone in desperate need of a little thought this Christmas.
I will be putting together essential winter survival packets for the homeless, things like;
- Warm socks
- Heat blankets
- Hand warmers
- chapstick / vaseline
- ziplock bags
- non perishable food
Any other suggestions / help are welcome.
I have taken the time to get to know a local homeless man in Eltham named Peter, he is a kind and friendly man, who does not beg and keeps to himself. He sleeps outside the church on the high street and walks up and down all day. He keeps his sleeping bag in a Sainsbury's bag in some bushes during the day.
Lets make a difference to the homeless this Christmas who truly needs it.
Any money raised will be used to make up winter survival packs for the homeless, these will be handed out to known homeless sleepers and anything left over will be given to shelters.
