The tale of the red butterfly
I have a nice little story for you. Yesterday, I was out walking the dogs and a big red butterfly flew in front of us for a while. Naali kept jumping up to try and catch it in her mouth but it kept flitting along the path, leading the way. It’s unusual to see any wildlife in our part of London other than foxes, let alone what I later found out was a peacock butterfly. It was beautiful but it felt strange and I believe in omens so I looked up its significance...
According to Native American tradition, a red butterfly represents the soul of a powerful spirit, spotting one by chance is an omen of very important, life-changing news. “What news have you come to deliver oh wise one?” I thought to myself on the park bench.
I went past my old flat on the way home to pick up post and there was a final gas & electricity bill I wasn’t expecting (EDF just decided to recalculate our rates???), so I disappointedly thought this must be the news and that I better take it seriously because of Mr. Butterfly.
About half an hour later I got an email saying that my grant application had been successful and that NatWest Back Her Business had supported this crowdfunding campaign, giving us a massive boost. This is life-changing news! It has felt at times in our careers like we are at a constant financial disadvantage but the freedom this leg-up brings means that we can now achieve so much more❤️
We're so close to our goal now so who's going to help push us past the total?
