What is Girl Beats World?
Girl Beats World is a brand new piece of theatre exploring what it’s like for young women growing up in a social media age. We’re in the early stages of development at the moment but we’re particularly interested in exploring real life v online personas, female friendships and the ability to make mistakes, learn and change and whether this is possible with the permanence of things that are put on the internet.
We're also interested in how technology is represented onstage and so the piece will take inspiration from retro video games.
Why do you need this funding?
We've successfully applied for Arts Council Funding for this project but to enable us to fully explore the subject we need to raise £700 in match funding.
What will you do once the project is funded?
The money raised will be contribute to funding three weeks of rehearsal and development at venues across the North East. This will allow me to pay actors and artists for their time, bring in specialists in clowning and movement and pay for production costs as well as running engagement workshops alongside the development of the work.
