Gig Buddies is a befriending service for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, who are matched with a volunteer based on mutual likes. A gig can be anything from the cinema to a festival. In our Bedford project, our gig buddy pairs have been to festivals, football matches, gigs, dinner and much more besides.
We also hold monthly socials that are open to all participants and trained volunteers. These vary from Jam nights to trip like Folk on the Boat.
We currently have a waiting list of participants who live in the mid-Bedfordshire area to receive this funding would mean that we would have the money to find, train and police check volunteers.
We aim to match at least 10 pairs of gig buddies in mid-Bedfordshire.
Our participants in Bedford have said things like :
"It used to be hard for me to go out at the weekend or in the evenings, but with my gig buddy I am more confident to do this"
"My gig buddy is the best, we do lots of fun things"
