- Hi there, my name is Mica (pronounced Meesha) and I am a Sexual Health Practitioner from London.
Born and raised in UK to parents of Jamaican descent, I have always been interested in exploring my history and roots. I was planning to visit Ghana before the Covid-19 pandemic gripped us but unfortunately, as with the entire world, my plans were put on hold. Like many of us, the last year has given me time to reflect on what truly matters and has highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities, pursuing my passions and giving back wherever I can. As soon as the travel restrictions were lifted I knew the first place I had to visit was Ghana, but I thought to myself, I'd also like to make this trip more meaningful and make a difference in some way while I'm there. So, I started looking into how I could use my skills and expertise to contribute to local communities. I researched the types of sexual health support services on offer in Ghana and realised that my skills could be of use in this area, so I reached out to few organisations and asked if I could get involved as a volunteer.
The level of interest was astonishing and I felt humbled to know that I could make an impact to the lives of others. I am delighted to say that through GVI (Global Vision International), I will be taking part in a women’s empowerment and reproduction programme in the community of Kokrobite on the Atlantic coast of Ghana, from 7th August -7th September 2021, where I will be creating and delivering workshops centred around women's health and empowerment. I am excited about contributing my skills to a country that I share a diaspora connection with, and where information and education on woman’s health may not be as freely accessible.
The placement is unpaid and entirely self funded so I really need YOUR HELP! I am seeking donations to help cover the costs of my my flights, visa, vaccinations, accommodation, transportation and general day to day living costs while I am there. I know the past year has been tough for us all but please, please, please I would greatly appreciate it if you can give whatever you can to help me make a difference.
THANK YOU for your support!
