There is a fabulous place called Naomi's House!

Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices provide expert hospice care to more than 325 life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and their extended families from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the Isle of Wight.

When a child or young person is diagnosed with a life-limiting condition Naomi House & Jacksplace becomes their home from home.

Their teams take the time to really get to know the family and fully understand their wishes. They offer vital respite support, giving families the chance to recharge their batteries and regroup in a calm, fun and welcoming environment. In times of emergency Naomi House & Jacksplace is there, giving families the help they need through difficult times.   And at the end of a child or young person's life, they pull out all the stops to give them a peaceful and dignified end, surrounded by family members.

One of the children that Naomi's House helped was my best friend's daughter.  Her name was Georgie and she suffered with Dravet Syndrome.   Dravet syndrome is a rare and severely disabling type of epilepsy presenting in infancy, sometimes called a catastrophic epilepsy.   Epilepsy is just one part of Dravet syndrome; there are various other health conditions and symptoms, which are often found in children with the condition.  Dravet syndrome is rare, with latest research showing it affects approximately 1 in 19,000 people.

Georgie sadly lost her battle with Dravet last week.  She suffered an enormous amount of seizures during her short life along with other medical complications, but she was the happiest child I have ever met, and always had a smile firmly planted on her face!  She was an inspiration to me, in that no matter what life threw at her she was determined to keep going, and in doing so she brought so much happiness to her family and friends.   I wanted to do something to give back to those who helped Georgie and her family through the hardest of times, so I thought I would start here, by asking you, the wonderful public, to help.  I am also planning to hold a bake sale, which I am in the process of trying to organise, and more events depending on the support I can gather locally!

Whatever money I manage to raise will be split equally between Naomi's House hospice and Dravet Syndrome UK.  So please, help me give something back to the people that were there for my friend and her family, and many, many others too.

Thank you.
