Who are we?
The Great British Luge Association is National Governing Body for the sport of natural Luge in Great Britain. We are responsible for developing the sports and the athletes within the UK.
Last year the GBR team saw the best results that they had ever seen in the history of the sport. Dex Unwin placed 16th in the world and newcomer Joshua Reeves placed 28th in the mens category. Ashleigh Evans managed to place 26th in the world in the womens category.
Despite the great results, the usual funding has been cut to the GBR team, requiring the athletes to find alternative funding. Luckily the athletes are full time Airmen and Airwomen of the Royal Air Force, so some funding has been given from associated charities. Despite this they are still is desperate need of funding to be able to compete in the sport, which has bid for Olympic status this year.
Why are we raising money?
This funding appeal is specifically to let these athletes compete on the world stage, so they can represent their country in the European and World Championships.
All the money raised will be used to support the three athletes and the GB coach on our training programme and competition. Funding areas:
- the continuation of the Natural Luge training programme, to maximize their potential and move up the ranks on the world stage.
- international travel and competition training and expenses, including the European and World Championships.
In order to achieve our goals we will need to pay for the training tracks in Europe, and transport around the different race locations.
Our Team
The teams Lead coach is Eddy Dunlop, a former GBR athlete who competed at the highest level in his day. Now he concentrates on coaching the new upcoming athletes and recruitment of new talent.
Eddy said: "The team is looking strong at the moment and are improving every year. We need to support these athletes for the upcoming season. Every penny raised will be greatly appreciated by myself and the team. All the money will be used to give these athletes the best chance to succeed at the European, World Championships and potentially the Olympics ".
