Hi I‘m Gavin Sandford, founder of 'IcanandIwill'. I am an ex Soldier that currently works as an Anaesthetic Practitioner in The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In my careers I have been inspired by how people deal with their sufferings, showing such tremendous attitudes of… “I Can and I Will” This sticks to your very core! This is why I am doing this extreme physical challenge to try to help others who are most in need. My Mission is to aid Children with cancer, Wounded Soldiers and Veterans. Charitable Donations will support 3 amazing Charities and in turn will help countless patients and those most in need for Q.E.H.B charity, BLESMA and Team Margot.

Imagine, as I have, working with numerous unimaginably injured soldiers, like little “Tommy”. Seeing their “Can Do” and “Will” attitudes in their fights to recovery with their friends and family along with them.

I have seen countless children, like little “Mary” that can barely talk, that have been through soo much suffering and treatment it would defy all the odds. Bearing witness as she cheerfully tells us that  “I Can Manage and I Will Cope” whilst their family, and us, the hospital staff, look on with tearful pride and inspiration. The Q.E.H.B  Charity supports the hospital by fundraising for those added extras that are NOT provided by the NHS and which will improve the patient treatment.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans Charity, helps veterans who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the loss of use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight and supports them for the duration of their lives in their communities and provides a vital welfare network where Members who have similar injuries and backgrounds to themselves can successfully build and integrate with others to overcome everyday battles.

Team Margot Foundation was set up when the beautiful 'Margot' was found to have two forms of Leukeamia, their aim is to see every patient in need of a bone marrow transplant quickly finding a matching donor and to help save the lives of all those people who never thought they’d need a bone marrow transplant. Their goal is to increase the 1 million people currently registered (1.6%) to 2.2 million people (c.4% of the population) on the UK stem cell register.

A World 1ST: A Double ‘Marathons Des Sables’  Now folks this is NOT “Just a single MARATHON!!” The Standard Race has you running 250Km over 6 days. I am doing this TWICE, covering 500Km over 12 days. I will also be running self sufficiently and carrying all that I need to survive on my back. With a reputation of being the hardest multi day race in the world, I reckon on being a bit war torn at the end of it. the reason I am doing this is to try and capture the 'hearts and minds' for your much needed donations and to gain as much media coverage to raise awareness for these important charities.

For this challenge to go ahead, I need funds to cover the remaining deficit in funds to cover the remaining highly important logistics, such as a 4x4, local driver, water, food, equipment in the Sahara to ensure that it is done in the safest way. Any surplus funds will be donated straight to the charities.

I have decided to attempt this extreme event to hopefully inspire others as to what is possible. The ‘I Can And I Will‘ Spirit. To get people to donate to fund thiw 'World's First Double MDS attempt' and join ‘The Stem Cell’ and ‘Bone Marrow Donor’ Registry. That simple selfless act of  ‘I Can and I Will’ can potentially save a child’s life.

100% of funds will be distributed evenly and I promise will go directly to these fantastic charities.

To encourage larger donations we have been sourcing rewards, such as tickets to world-class Obstable Course Racing (OCR) events and others we will release and update you with regularly.

I cannot thank you enough for your support
