Over the past few years London Gatwick Airport (LGW) has changed the flight patterns so that planes fly low over residential areas.
At the same time, LGW have removed the noise monitoring stations on these new flight areas.
They have also not provided an easy means for people to complain about high (88 dB for instance) noise levels. Their options are by post(!!!), by a form fed through another site or by an automated telephone service.
This is a cynical approach to noise abatement and seems to be so-ordinated with their plans to introduce a second runway.
This funding is to provide a noise complaints database for the public, so that people can easily log complaints about aircraft noise.
This project will provide a system that could be used for noise complaint recording for any airport.
A second project could provide a compatible App so that people could use their phones to semi-automatically record noise complaints.
The system would provide noise complaint data to users and to organisations who might be interested in such data.... such as Government.
