Future of Heart Space

Our aim is to raise £36,000 to purchase our unique and beautiful building to create a world-class Yoga studio for Dundee.

We did it!

On 22nd Sep 2017 we successfully raised £40,485 of £36,000 target with 238 supporters in 34 days

New stretch target

We are almost at the end of our crowdfunding campaign, which closes at 8.00pm on Saturday!

Your support so far has been amazing. We have reached our first stage target due to your generosity Now that you have made this possible we can move on to the next stage.

Our new stretch target is £66,000

If we can raise this amount we can carry out the essential planning work required before we start refurbishment. This will involve working with our architects on the finer details of our new studio that will require specialist experts and designers to guide us through what we can build within our beautiful building to create the amazing space we have visualised. It is vital to get this groundwork underway so we can open our world-class yoga studio as soon as possible.

Part of this process will include consulting with you and all the groups, charities and partners we work with so that our future studio is something we can all be proud of, benefit from, and will enjoy for a long time.

All the funds over and above our original target come to us directly now, so this is more exciting at this early stage than we ever anticipated – thank you so much for your support.

ALL pledgers and supporters will be put into a draw to win a Private Yoga session, each month for 12 months (Announced 16th Sept)

In 2012 Heart Space Yoga & Bodyworks opened its doors after a very careful restoration project that transformed the Logie Church Hall in Dundee’s West End into a beautiful Yoga studio that is loved by many.
In just 5 years we have developed a strong Yoga community of regular students with new students joining class each week. We now host 38 classes a week and have a team of 8 teachers. As well as our scheduled classes we work with many local organisations and charities, schools and community groups delivering yoga and well-being classes in and around Dundee.
All in all, we have come a long way in a short space of time establishing ourselves as Dundee's leading yoga studio and one of Scotland's outstanding dedicated yoga centres presenting a wide variety of classes, workshops and events for all ages and abilities, delivered by a team of professional trained teachers of unrivaled quality.

Heart Space Yoga & Bodyworks is a registered charity (SCIO). We currently rent the studio building with responsibility for maintenance and upkeep. This puts a lot of strain on our resources and restricts our ability to develop our work because we are basically putting the majority of our income into someone else's pocket. Our vision includes maximizing our resources to secure our future and legacy.

The first stage towards achieving this is to own the studio building. This will immediately improve our stability, make better use of financial resources plus it will provide the charity with a working asset as well as a future legacy opportunity. The second stage will be to raise the capital funds to refurbish the studio (see below) by applying to funding organisations like the National Lottery as well as Trusts, Foundations, Just Giving schemes and donations.

Our bank has approved and agreed to support our vision so we now need your help to raise £36,000 of the £120,000 total required to purchase the building.

We have put together a series of unique rewards in exchange for funding, but it is also possible to just simply donate to the project.  Memberships, vouchers and class passes brought here are valid anytime from the end of this funding programme. Each pledge can be assigned to someone else making these a fantastic gift while supporting this amazing project. Everyone backing this project will be contributing to the creation of a world-class Yoga studio for Dundee and will, therefore, be part of the legacy of Heart Space and your name will be included in our hall of fame.

With your help, our future is very exciting. By funding this project you will become part of the fabric of our beautiful building and you will be providing opportunities for so many others to enjoy Yoga in a very special place.  We will be delighted to have you on board!

Hear from the people who come to Heart Space about why they started yoga and what they think of their studio:

Heart Space co-founder, Ian Alexander, has created a vision inspired by the regular attendance and enjoyment of classes by the many students that turn up each day to get on their mats and by the work and dedication of Heart Space co-founder and Forrest Yoga teacher, Finlay Wilson. Jointly, their aim is to create a beautiful, multifunctional, world-class Yoga facility dedicated to the practice of Yoga and well-being within the walls of the existing building, retaining its stunning features while providing modern comfortable surroundings.  The newly designed space will allow for a more diverse range of classes and workshops timetabled to accommodate everyone's increasingly busy lives whilst at the same time engaging with more people of all ages and abilities from within the local community and beyond.

With creative design our new studio will feature the following:
  • a large multifunctional studio that can be split into two with the use of a dividing wall to allow 2 classes to work side by side and a third space accessed via a new staircase leading up to a mezzanine area
  • a new and brighter welcoming reception area and sign-in desk
  • cafe, juice bar, and social spaces open all day as well as during classes
  • a yoga shop
  • relaxation and meditation space
  • zen garden and outdoor retreat area
  • improved washroom facilities, including showers
  • new therapy suite (with its own washroom, shower, and changing facilities)
  • improved disabled access to all areas and facilities
  • improved lighting, ventilation, and heating
We hope our project inspires you and that you will support us by generously donating to this amazing vision for the future of Heart Space. Thank you!
