My name is Andrew, I'm currently on a Sociology and Criminology undergraduate degree at the University of Portsmouth.
I am ambitiously aiming to become a Counselling Psychologist and work for the NHS.
Mental health has always been a topic i hold dear to my heart. We are facing a mental health crisis, i want to end the stigma around mental health and make a real difference.
I believe now more than ever, mental health professionals are needed in the UK.
I believe this country will suffer long term side effects of the lockdowns imposed on this country and sadly, mental health will become a bigger issue than it previously has been, which means this country is in desperate need of people like me aspiring to become psychologists and wanting to make a difference.
We've seen an increase in suicides throughout this pandemic, a partial cause of this has to be the long wait times imposed on struggling individuals that desperately need help.
If we're like minded, we'll agree is this unacceptable. But more mental health professionals means shorter wait times and shorter wait times means more lives could be saved.
Aside from my degree, i have been volunteering at every given opportunity. Working with younger students in difficult family situations, assisting vulnerable adults in my local area who are subject to loneliness during this pandemic and volunteering for the NHS check in and chat scheme.
I am asking for your support to help me fund my further studies. A masters degree alone could cost up to £10,000+ and the Government only offers masters students up to £11,200(+/-)
I'll update you every step of the way, from university applications, video diaries on my progress and letters of acceptance from university courses.
This will be an essential step allowing me to enter the world of psychology. My only goal is to get to work, and start making a positive impact on people's lives.
I want to thank you for taking the time to read this.
