Raise funds to help disabled people take part in a sport. Community Golf takes the course to where the people actually are, setting up golf holes and challenges in disabilty centres throughout the South East of England.
What I Am Doing
On 15th and 16th May I will be at the Olympic Part as a volunteer helping to organise the event for teams of disabled people to take part in our golf event. We have created a golf course in the Park over 14 holes and there are some 50 volunteers helping to run the events. On the Saturday the European Urban Golf Cup will take place with some 23 teams coming from all over Europe to take part.
About the Project
I am part of Community Golf CIC, a Community Interest Company that takes golf to educational and disabilty sites throughout the South East of England. I am looking to raise funds for 5 disability sites on the Kent / Surrey border that will give them each 1 hour of sport a week for 6 weeks through the summer. If I can raise more funds then more sites can be added and more people will take part. On average some 10 people take part in a session and some 20-30 people per site.
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we rely on the support of the public, private and third party / voluntary sector to expand our work. We want people of all abilities. We want to help people of all abilities to :
- Play sport
- Improve their health and wellbeing
- Build character and resilience
- Learn new skills
- make new friends and have fun.
