Having been lucky enough to be awarded a finalist place in the Global Art Awards, I am trying to secure funding to realise the dream of attending. Please click on the donation section and select your reward of choice.
I have been making artwork since the age of five and studied when funds have allowed, achieving MA in 2016. My work includes themes of equality and humanity.
The artwork selected by the jury is about the tradegy of a number of Libyan refugees trying to reach safety across the Mediterranean who were fired on and drowned. The installation consists of a number of porcelain hands reaching up in distress, pleading for a hand up or a hand out. The installation fused my concerns into a final work, influenced by Duchamps Fountain, and the poetry of Stevie Smith and as the hands eventually randomly fall, they reveal lines of text in a sculptural poem.
The opportunity to attend this event will bring me into contact with artists from around the world, forging links with individuals and global organisations. It would be amazing opportunity for career and development and allow me to bring back knowledge and contacts for other artists to follow on, enabling and encouraging others to try for these global experiences.
