Boogie Mites Community Projects would like to expand into the Bordon area and surround. Our music program is designed to support language and literacy skills, through the use of ecologically friendly props, handmade instruments and lively music. We use music and movement to increase understanding and interaction for children under 5 and their families and carers, this has been adapted to also include a intergenerational program to share in care homes and day centres.
We have successfully been running community groups including intergenerational groups in Portsmouth for ten years. Recently winning the Shaping Portsmouth Award 2020. We established ourselves as a not for profit organisation about a year ago in order to become more inclusive and supportive of families, as part of this we felt we should be offering our service to further reaches of Hampshire. We are aware that rural areas often lack the same level of choice and activities for families compared to large cities. This can have an impact on parent and carers well being and mental health, children's academic progress. Bordon and surround children’s language and communication skills are below the national average.
We would like funds to support with the development of our groups. The fund would go towards;
-Teacher training, we offer employment to those typically who might struggle to find employment such as lone parents or families with shift worker.
- Equipment for the group, such as mats for families to sit on, toys for children to play with, tea and coffee facilities for chat and social time
- Kit costs. All our kits are made from low cost, upcycled or recycled materials. We like to ensure all who attend our music can join in using props
- Running costs such rent. We look for locations that are central and easy to access. Hubs of the community. Encouraging any age to join our groups, not just families.
-Enabling families to contribute what they can afford through a voluntary contribution
Once established we will look for further ways to fun vulnerable families offering and continue the group through a low cost PAYG system similar to our Portsmouth groups.
We had a great time today at our first ever Boogie Mites session! Nicole the lady who leads the session was brilliant! She made us feel welcome & relaxed. The easy- to- join- in -with songs & animal/character props were great. My daughter is 6 and thoroughly enjoyed singing along and interacting with the babies & toddlers. We look forward to the next one. Hayley
My son absolutely loves it and it's great for me to. To meet and talk to other mums Sonya
I would highly recommend boogie mites, we have only been to a few sessions at the moment but my son Harrison is loving it and has progressed so much with sitting up and he falls straight to sleep after the session :) Nicole was so welcoming the first time I met her and was just as lovely and enthusiastic the second time and she’s amazing with Harrison and the rest of the babies too :) Amy
