About the Club

Frome Town FC was founded in 1904 and has a long and illustrious history of providing sporting entertainment within the Town as well as being a social and community hub.

Frome Town FC is a Charter Standard Community Club, the highest level achievable from the Football Association in recognition of our work across the age groups, both male & female and within the wider community. In addition to adult male and female teams playing at the Stadium we also provide veterans football and host an annual youth tournament as well as County youth games.

Outside of football we are widely recognise for our community work, being involved with Frome Carnival, Frome Day Centre, Frome Players Drama Group, Frome Youth Conference amongst many others.

We are always trying to improve on and off the field and expand our offering to the Town.

The Club is currently participating at the top end of the Southern Premier League, just 3 promotions away from the Football League and its highest ever position in history. Steady progress has been made over recent seasons and our objective is to gain promotion to the National League, joining the likes of Bath City & Weston-Super-Mare

The Floodlights

The existing floodlights at Frome Town were installed in 1980. Since then the Club has achieved several promotions, and the lights have deteriorated over time meaning the output is no longer sufficient for the league requirements going forward. In addition, with aspirations to progress it is essential that we also plan for the league above.

We looked into extra lamps on existing columns but every supplier (4 in total) advised that complete wiring replacement is also required and deterioration of the existing metal work over time means this was not a practical solution.

The new floodlights will be more energy efficient, despite being brighter and also by reducing to 4 columns from 6 and the lamps being more targeted there will also be much less light spillage and the entire pitch will be evenly lit. Currently some areas are much brighter and some in shadow.

Our Supporters Club have been fundraising over 4 years and raised £30,000 towards the target. With FA support,  we are close to our total target but due to lead times and the need to complete this in the close season we only have a short window to raise the rest of the money. If we can raise a final £10,000 we know the full cost is covered as well as any unforseen problems and we can appoint the contractors to start work.

What if we don't make it?

We are confident the people of Frome will back us but if we do not achieve the new lights it will prevent us being eligible for promotion should we be successful on the field and also involve us in costs of remedial work simply to get through the next season whic is false economy

Not so much testimonials but comments along the lines of "Aren't you going to switch the lights on" and "haven't you paid the electricity bill" are common amongst opposition supporters and officials!

First team manager Josh Jeffries said "the Club are on a steep learning curve with a hungry young squad and doing everything they can to push onto the next level. Quality floodlighting will improve the match day experience for all of us"
