Music is central to life at Tiffin School, whether in the classroom or in the many instrumental and choral groups, and is nationally renowned and celebrated. However, government funding barely covers the cost of curricular activities, and the wide range of extra-curricular activities has to be independently funded.
The Friends of Tiffin Music (FoTM) raise funds through annual subscriptions and a range of activities such as running bars at concerts & quiz evenings. As a result, in recent years FoTM has been able to support the work of the music department through providing new instruments and amps, funding the staffing of ensembles and master-classes, providing bursaries for those studying minority instruments or taking part in international tours, enhancing the use of ICT in the music curriculum and providing everyday equipment such as music stands, choir folders and sheet music.
FoTM has also contributed to large projects such as refurbishing and equipping the music studio and music practice rooms.
But, in order for Tiffin to maintain its outstanding musical reputation (and to continue providing your sons with opportunities that are largely unrivalled in the 'state sector') FoTM now needs to reach out across the wider school community and hopes that this new fundraising challenge will encourage parents and friends of Tiffin to give as much as they are able.
The "pledge panel" gives an idea of just how your money will be used by the Music Department....whether funding a guitar cable (£5) a violin bow (£20) or contributing towards "big ticket" items that will really help Tiffin Music continue to be an inspiring space to make music, whether classic or contemporary, whether our talented students are aspiring to be the next Edward Elgar or Ed Sheeran!
We're confident that Tiffin parents and friends are all "singing from the same hymn sheet" and that together we can really make a difference!
