Since 2001 Livewire has been delivering free theatre based workshops to young people in Harlow. Recently Livewire has expanded to reach as many young people as possible to give them the opportunity to take part in a positive activity which promotes confidence, self esteem, social responsibility and above all else, fun! The money we raise would be spent on the following: Weekly Drama Workshops Throughout the week young people can take part in drama sessions which are always aimed at making sure everyone is involved and valued whilst learning new, transferable life skills. We work across four evenings with different age groups from 7 years old up until 23! We work towards performances but also training our young people to go into primary schools and work with other young people. We have different experts come in and work with our young people on a variety of styles from Stage Fighting through to Stand Up Comedy all whilst developing team work and social skills And also........ Mindfullness Sessions Our fourth evening of the week is for ‘Mindfulness and Wellbeing’. Many of our young people are experiencing anxiety and depression, we run weekly sessions where we can stop and reflect by using yoga, guided games and activities to promote healthy discussion. We have been surprised at how many young people come along and value the opportunity to take control of their own mental health. Easter Theatre Challenge. We provide daytime holiday workshops whenever the schools close. We run projects called ‘Theatre Challenge’ where young people can take part for a whole week from 9am until 4pm and choose from Dance, Drama or Music. We devise a performance that usually involve up to 60 young people all working together to be creative and produce an original piece of theatre that inspires all who take part and all who come to see. All of Livewire’s activities are free. We never charge a penny to those attending, or parents coming to watch. We believe the Arts should be free and available to everyone as it enriches our community beyond measure. We tirelessly fundraise in our community and apply for grants when available. We are always looking for sponsorship and welcome support when offered so we can help keep offering these fantastic opportunities to the young people of Harlow and their families.
