To provide free top class medical care to the worlds poor by establishing eye hospitals in their communities

by John Miles Trustee in Knaphill, England, United Kingdom

Started back in the 90's this Rotary charity has so far established close to 80 hospitals which provide a full range of free eye care to the poor.

Each hospital is controlled/owned and run by local Rotarians via a legally constituted Trust. All are volunteers. They do however employ top class medical staff.

The charities business plan is that every hospital must develop income streams such that they become financially freestanding in a few years

The charity attracts Grants from the Rotary Foundation such that £12,000 will grow to £72,000 of project spending.

The eighty hospitals are creating a capacity of 180,000 cataract operations per year. Sadly that is just the tip of the iceberg and many many more hospitals are needed.

Due to the generous Grant process which this charity enjoys it can provide a free cataract operation for JUST £5!

£12,000 WILL FUND THE COST OF THE INITIAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO START PROVIDING TOP CLASS EYE CARE FROM A NEW HOSPITAL.
