Freddy & Hicks is a Veggie & Vegan Street Food company based in Glasgow. We create handmade burgers, vibrant loaded fries and homemade sauces & salads from seasonal ingredients. We believe that eating less meat is good for the environment & we want to make eating veggie food fun, tasty and satisfying for kids and adults alike.
Who Are We?
After falling in love with a vegetarian man & becoming step-mum to 2 gorgeous vegetarian children at the age of 26, I thought I better learn how to cook some decent veggie food! We went to a local farm, picked the veg and eventually found some recipes that the kids liked and the adults did too. I wanted to try these creations out on a wider audience & managed to get a stall at Borough Market in London in 2006. I would spend my time handing out tasters and explaining them to anyone who would listen until I lost my voice, every weekend! 10 years later we landed in Glasgow & I had to start again from scratch, with my own kids as inspiration this time I used their middle names (Freddy & Hicks), turned our home kitchen into a production space & launched my trusty veggie burgers with some new vegan additions to Glasgow's Southsiders in 2017.
Whats the Problem?
I managed to buy a bright yellow gazebo to do street food markets & other outdoor events, but after a year of being tested by gale force winds, driving rain & sub-zero temperatures I soon began to realise that my flimsy set-up was not robust enough for the Scottish weather.
Also, setting up for an outdoor event at the moment takes 5 hours: digging out all the equipment that’s squirrelled away around my flat, loading everything into our family car, unloading & carrying each piece from the car to the pitch, building the tables, gazebo, food display all by hand, and thats before we even serve one customer! So I’m taking the next step and I need your help...
How Can You Help?
We are raising funds to convert this old horse box into a Burger Van. This will:
- Streamline our operation & protect us from the wild weather all year round
- Cut our set-up time in half so we can say YES to more events and take our food & message to a wider audience
- Enable us to visit schools in Glasgow with mini veggie burgers to give kids a positive experience of plant-based food and show how it can help the environment
We have sourced second-hand equipment for the horse box to keep costs down but the building work for the trailer is what we need your help with, as you can see from the photos it has no floor so there’s lots of work to do. Have a look at our rewards - huge discounts for regular customers, fantastic merchandise and we'll even throw you a party! Together we can make eating locally produced veggie food fun for this generation and the next. Thank you.

"Anna, I have loved and followed you since Big V London at Bakery47. Me and my girls absolutely LOVE seeing you and your gals almost every Friday at The Arches! And now I will happily get to support you by wearing one of your shirts. Thank you for inspiring my family (especially my husband) to eat more consciously and healthier. My husband loves your halloumi burgers so much he tries to recreate them at home with various toppings. We cannot wait to watch you take this next step with Freddy & Hicks!"

We teamed up with illustrator Jasmine Floyd who designed some gorgeous images that we're using for our t-shirts, tote bags and aprons. They'll be printed by female-run social enterprise Wild & Kind in Glasgow with high quality, vegan, water based inks to ensure a cruelty free process from start to finish. Hopefully you will find a reward that tickles your fancy and you can help send us on our way!
