For one week every August, the harbour town of Fowey in Cornwall is taken over by the Regatta. A carnival atmosphere descends and tradition takes over.
Many thousands of visitors descend upon Fowey - plenty on an annual family pilgrimage - to witness and take part in the week of events, from crab-catching to pasty-eating competitions, traditional gig racing to build-your-own-raft then try-not-to-sink-in-it, from the carnival procession to live bands, Punch & Judy, cream teas on hotel lawns, fireworks displays, the Fowey Town Band and their giant pasty, Spot the Stranger in local shop windows, the harbour swim, the crowning of the Carnival Queen, flora dance, hog roast...
It's a lot of events.
Each one planned by a voluntary committee and paid for exclusively by donations from the great British public. That's you, m'dear.
We strive each year to make this Fowey Regatta bigger and better than the last. This summer we have lined up the Red Devils parachute display team, homegrown comedy legend, the Kernow King, and equally homegrown rock gods, King Creature - headlining a week that will take up residence in the memory.
Previously we have shaken collecting buckets among the crowds - and we'll be doing that again, don't worry! - but this year we embrace the future and crowdfunding.
We need your help. Please sponsor an event. We cannot create these memories without you.
