Our Group has successfully fought back a new oil and gas well from being installed in Swanage. The fight is not over however. More planning requests are expected for this same site and others in the region.
Our expertise has grown considerably however we will need legal representation and must raise funds to win the next round of planning.
We will also be running public engagement exercises to help share our learnings and galvanise the public to stand together and keep Dorset safe from, oil and gas drilling including fracking.
The UK has rightly pledged to make a strategic move away from carbon intensive energy production yet the government is pulling out all the stops to support fracking. This dangerous process has caused so much harm in the United States and Australia, we do not have to suffer the same fate in the UK.
Fortunately, we have lots of options available to us with technology that has matured and is ready to replace fossil fuels. Bio Methane can and is being produced locally from our food waste, our animal slurry, sewage, and even from grass. Dorset also hosts some of countries largest solar arrays and has massive potential for tidal and wind energy.
Dorset can show the way and in the process, generate local jobs, preserve our natural heritage, keep our wildlife from harm and protect our tourism industry.
Its a win win win...... if we can keep the smash and grab corporations at bay.
