Why a Woodfired Pizza Oven Trailer?
As many of you will know, for the last couple of years, I have been cooking Pizzas on the smallholding in a wood fired oven I built myself, using ingredients that I have either grown or foraged for myself. This was all done under the name of "The Garden Pizza Company." You can read the amazing reviews I got if you follow this link. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186566-d12709994-Reviews-The_Garden_Pizza_Company-Pitlochry_Perth_and_Kinross_Scotland.html
The first year we had a small pop up marquee next to the oven for customers to sit and eat their pizzas in. The second year Flora the Yurt appeared in the middle of the Vegetable patch for customers to enjoy their pizzas along with a salad bar with salads made from homegrown produce. This was a resounding success and we were looking forward to a great year this year.
Unfortunately it was not to be as the Estate we live on have decided that they did not want the public coming to the farm or for me to run a catering business from the farm kitchen.
Not to be defeated and to be able to carry on I have decided to go mobile by acquiring a wood fired oven trailer in a Classic Horsebox.
A bit about me.
My name is Alec Cruikshank and my passion for food is inspired by the Scottish countryside and environment. In a previous life I founded The Scottish Deli in Pitlochry and Dunkeld which I ran for 10 years before selling the whole business 4 years ago.
Since then I have been carrying out various catering activities and private chef work across Scotland under the name of Fonab Farm Foods. I was recently named "Chef of the Year" at the Courier Newspaper's "Menu Food and Drink Awards 2019.
As much of the produce as possible that I use in my catering enterprises are grown by myself on the smallholding or foraged, fish and shot by myself.
You can find out more about what I do on my Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/fonabsmallholding
What would I do with a Wood Fired Pizza Trailer?
There are limitless opportunities for taking a Wood fired Pizza Trailer out and about. Here are some of the things I have planned:
- Street Food visits to local towns and cities on specific nights / days.
- Rural Community Visits on specific nights / days.
- Private Events and Parties - imagine inviting your friends round for a get together and them finding a horsebox with a wood fired oven in it sitting in your drive!
- Corporate Events
- Highland Games
What's in it for you?
To help fund this new venture I am looking for as many people as possible to help me. In return depending how much you pledge you will receive "free pizzas or events" Basically you are paying up front for some fab food!.
Any money that is pledged does not come to me until the target is reached. If the target is not reached by the date set then the money is returned to you.
