Our first week is over – crowdfunding update review.
Sincere thanks go to the first group of people to support our project. They are showing fantastic faith that we can do this. Thank you!
Over £700 in the first week is a little better than expected, given our major push is to launch the news at the RAF Cosford Air Show this coming weekend (Sunday 9th June 2019) – right next to where the experience will be built. We will be engaging with the local community, inspiring them with enthusiasm and bringing awareness with the local media - particularly with the Express & Star and Shropshire Star newspapers - who are always championing local investment and job creation.
(Fly Victor hopes to employ at least 4 people, initially, maybe more when it gets busy!)
The aim of this project is to deliver what will be a remarkable experience - honouring the wonders of this iconic V-Force aircraft for many years to come. Our unit also has the room for growth and if this funding model works well, we are already contemplating a far larger project in around 18 months’ time! (Let’s just say that will be supersonic!!)
Crowdfunding is still a relatively new phenomenon in this country, but it allows businesses to find funding away from high street banks. They always want security, and of course, until a specialist flight simulator is built, there is nothing to secure against the asset – and flight simulators are not a quick disposal item for them, unlike a car. Funding on a mass-produced, popular item, that is easy to move on is relatively easy. We do not have that luxury with a very specialist piece of kit!
Finding the most likely people who will enjoy the simulator is our preferred option. The aviation community, both in the industry and from a general interest perspective, is huge.
With the aviation community showing this exciting new project its usual enthusiastic support, we will also be able to tap into the gift experience market and use the facilities to be inspirational and educational and keep the history of this amazing Cold War period alive for future generations. Making it friendly to wheelchair users is also high on our priority list, as many existing simulators just do not cater for those with limited lower-body mobility.
These are just some of the reasons we have decided ‘the crowd’ would be best in helping to realise our ambitions.
With just over 32 days remaining to reach the funding target that will enable us to proceed with the simulator build, the building lease, all necessary alterations and Cold War displays, let’s break the remaining budget down into bite-sized chunks.
Firstly, we have secured two-thirds of the total budget ourselves, and our MD is putting in his own money and certainly a lot of time and energy into this, so he must have confidence in the future!
Secondly, in the remaining timescale on this Crowdfunder, we have to find just 68x (sixty-eight times) more than what we have at present. Given the huge number of people that love aviation, and those likely to buy a special gift (everyone has a birthday, after all, in 2020), this is ultimately achievable.
Breaking it down, even more, the average spend of our existing supporters is some £120, which leaves us needing some 395 more people to join our superb Crowdfunding group.
The important thing is to strike while the iron is hot! People may be more prepared to offer support to the project when it looks to be achieving its goal – or even surpassing it. Acting now means, ‘The difference is you!’
Perhaps you are one that is tempted, but not yet committed. Perhaps you know someone who would love to do it, or have someone in mind for that special gift in 2020? (Remember, vouchers under this offer are valid until 31st December 2020). Please, do not delay.
Now is the time to act!
Be one of the 400 we need!
If our Cold War ‘Fly Victor’ experience is not something for you or someone you know, then spreading the word on our plans to family and friends is something you can do that will not cost a penny. Sharing our social media posts and images will be another way you can help us reach that 400 figure. You have our sincere thanks for whatever you can do to help.
We will have another funding update next Monday.
