On Saturday 22nd September 2018, my husband and I were travelling from Bizerte to Nabeul when we were caught in some of the deadliest flash floods ever since in Tunisia. We were near to Belli Village which is approximately 20 kilometres from Nabeul. We were stranded in between 2 rivers for nearly 7 hours with no form of communication. It was just a case of wait and see what happens if we ever survive. We had to abandon our car as the water was coming inside. Then, out of the blue, miraculously we were rescued by a man and his pregnant wife who offered us their home for the night. They also provided us with warm clothes and food. We were finally able to charge our phones and reach out to our family. This was an incredible gesture especially as they had just lost their own car which had been swept away. They were also trying to locate their family members including their 2 year old daughter. The calmness in which they helped us was incredible. I now, want to help raise money for them to repair their damaged car which was recovered after 2 weeks in a remote part of the village. The car was their pride and joy and they had only bought it 3 months prior to the floods.
The day after, we heard the sad news of two young girls who lost their lives in Belli village. It could have been us if we were not rescued.
Thanks for your support.
