Will you support First Class Futures and the Creation of a Nursery Ground.

Just over twenty years ago, the community in the North East came together to deliver a dream. Individuals, families, businesses and organisations gave generously to deliver first-class status to the area, ensuring Durham CCC’s entry to the County Championship. No longer would our young talent have to travel elsewhere to realise their potential at the highest sporting level.

Our success in delivering that promise has earned an international reputation with local youngsters helping Durham to win three Championships in six years and several going on to earn international honours. Indeed one in four of our Academy graduates have now played at first-class level and one in eleven have played internationally. Many more now play important roles in local club cricket.

With the development of a Nursery Ground, we could achieve much more and genuinely transform the aspirations of our young people across the region. Currently, we have no home for young cricketers across the region – the Academy has to seek support and pitches from local clubs. Young women especially find available facilities difficult to find and still have to move south to realise their ambitions. The pioneering work of the Cricket Board introducing youngsters to the sport and developing their talents lacks a central coaching facility.

A Nursery Ground would transform this and provide a true community resource for developing talent and aspirations at every age and stage. The region excels at cricket but we need to deliver the opportunities that our young boys and girls deserve. With your support, we can.

We need to raise at least £150,000 to make this a reality. We have been assured of £100,000 support from both the public and private sectors but first, we need to demonstrate that our grass roots recognise the scale of this opportunity.

With that intention, and with the generous support of the Northern Echo, we are therefore launching a fund-raising campaign to raise the first £50,000. Supporters will be able to contribute on line and help us take the first vital steps to ensure First Class Futures for all of the young people in the North East.

Please help us deliver that dream.
