WHO ARE WE?
FinBar was created by mum and son duo, Amy and Finn, 10 from St Merryn,Cornwal after Finn's school project on plastic pollution and its effects on our marine life sparked a personal mission. As a keen surfer and budding marine biologist, Finn is increasingly concerned that, by the time he is old enough to qualify, there will be very little ocean wildlife to discover due to the vast rate at which it is being destroyed by human actions, especially plastic pollution. He came home one day and announced he had written to supermarket directors asking them to stop the use of single use plastic (see video) and asked his mum if they could begin by making their home plastic free. They started in the bathroom and Amy quickly found that there was very little choice available locally, especially when it came to shampoo, so Finn suggested they make their own! They began selling on a table outside their house for pocket money for Finn but interest grew hugely and quickly in both the story and the beautiful hand made products. They are stocked in 6 shops locally and the 'team' which now include Amy's mum as chief packer, have started making plastic free bathroom welcome packs for holiday homes, they attend regular local craft markets together and both love to sell the products and spread the word of Finn's plastic-free mission.
"I WANT TO HELP PEOPLE MAKE A CHANGE, EASILY - REFUSE SINGLE USE PLASTIC - START IN YOUR BATHROOM, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE " says Finn.
Our mission is to get every bathroom in the UK to be plastic free, we are providing a simple solution, swap the bottles for natural solid soap and shampoo bars, with zero or paper packaging, you can help make a massive difference to the future of our oceans." says Amy.
THE HARD FACTS ABOUT PLASTIC POLLUTION.
* Plastic pollution can now be found on every beach in the world, from tourist beaches along the Cornish coastline to uninhabited islands. Nowhere is free from this issue!
* Over 150 plastic bottles litter each mile of UK beaches.
* 100,000 marine mammals and turtles and 1 million sea birds are killed by marine plastic pollution annually!
THE PROBLEM IS REAL AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO SOLVE IT?
