We wish to make the first in a series of 2-3min films, employing satire, vox pop & drama to examine the impact of recent NHS 'reform'. The first script is written, the actors are in place but we now need to employ a film-maker. Here is the script: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dbi2obtrifb2gm7/NHS drama 2.doc?dl=0
If I were to tell you that the government no longer has accountability for delivering healthcare to the whole nation would you be surprised? I was. I only learnt 4 weeks ago about the detail of the 2012 Health & Social Care Act and was so shocked that I felt compelled to act.
The Issue in Brief:
Primary Care Trusts who had a duty to provide healthcare to the whole population within their area have been replaced by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) who only have a duty to provide appropriate services to people who are registered with G.P.s. Some G.P's have deregistered expensive patients and some CCG's will no longer fund some former NHS procedures, e.g. hearing aids and cataract operations. The most galling thing of all, is that it will actually be more expensive. An estimated £5bn has already been diverted from clinical care to structural reorganisation. The U.K. currently spends 8% of it's GDP on healthcare compared to 18% in the U.S. One of the reasons for this is that the NHS, as was, could negotiate better deals with the pharmaceutical industry than small private enterprises. A fragmented NHS is very likely to be a more expensive NHS. I could go on but pithy film shorts would be far more effective than anything I could write here.
Who am I?
I am a dramatist who has spent 16 years working with both professional artists and/or community groups to interpret sites or historical events through drama. My most recent project can be viewed at: https://vimeo.com/101571576 My previous projects are listed at: http://theatredevon.net/eileen-dillon.
What backing have I already secured?
In the space of 1 week 5 people have volunteered acting, admin & sound editing support. After reading the script, https://www.opendemocracy.net/ournhs offered to support the marketing and circulation of the films and http://www.38degrees.org.uk/ have agreed to their contact details appearing in the film. I am hopeful that http://www.keepournhspublic.com/ will do the same.
Why should you support this project?
If you, like me, want the wider public to know about the changes in the NHS and their impact on future healthcare, please support the making of this film. If we are successful in raising the money to make this film, we hope to make more. We intend having these films made by the end of March, so that they can have maximum impact in the lead up to the general election.
