At The Feed we are passionate about food and passionate about people. We inspire people by using food towards gaining a more meaningful lifestyle and sustaining employment.
At The Feed our Social Purpose is to find ways to prevent poverty, hunger and homelessness in Norwich. Daily we work towards our vision which is Communities Free from Poverty.
We provide the following services ;
Training courses for those who face a barrier to employment. From Jan 2019 we have run a 4 week training course every month from our community cafe on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich, from where we also provide outside and corporate catering. Our training is completely immersed within the cafe and catering social enterprise giving our trainees not only the skills they need to work within the catering and hospitality industry but also an enormous sense of achievement, confidence and motivation.
Work experience- Once our trainees have completed our 4 week training course they stay with us for a further 4 weeks for work experience. This gives them a realistic experience and also the opportunity for peer to peer support. This also gives us the opportunity to work with them to focus on their next steps into job searching, employment and/or volunteering opportunities.
One to one coaching for people with an offence history focusing on employability and returning to work
Volunteering opportunities via our Volunteer Co-ordinator
Referrals and signposting to other training and support providers and volunteering opportunities
Signposting, as part of Norwich City Councils Personalised Housing Plan, where it is identified that a persons lack of housing is caused by their lack of employment
Access to work placements and employment opportunities with our current local employers and corporate partners.
The Feed have been providing training courses and information and advice to people since 2014.
We are a small team with big ambitions. We work from our lovely community café on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich, please pop in to say Hello, enjoy a locally roasted coffee and homemade cake with us and see how we are changing lives in Norwich.
The people we support are hugely diverse, ranging from those who have experienced homelessness, poor mental health, a history of substance misuse and offending backgrounds. We often support people who are experiencing all or some of these problems at the same time.
More often than not the people that we work with have experienced traumatic events and we witness the harmful effects these have on their lifestyles. The aim of this project – Feed Your Mind is to help to fund a Trauma Therapist for 12 months to support our trainees alongside The Feed Training Course. At The Feed we recognise we are able to equip people with the practical skills and confidence they need to move forward into employment, however there is a crucial need to address the trauma so many of our trainees have faced before they are able to successfully gain and most importantly sustain meaningful employment.
There are many kinds of therapy, but trauma therapy is explicitly focused on helping people who have had unfortunate things happen to them, this may be trauma through childhood, domestic violence, neglect or a deeply disturbing event or series of events.
AIM OF PROJECT
To provide counselling and therapy to individuals that have faced traumatic life experiences, to support to overcome anxiety, depression, social isolation and move towards a more meaningful lifestyle.
Our Therapeutic Support would work towards the crucial goals of trauma therapy, which are typically;
- To face the reality of the past event without getting stuck in it
- To reduce or eliminate trauma symptoms
- To work towards shifting focus from the past to the present
- To improve daily functioning
- Raise awareness of hereditary trauma
- To reclaim personal power
- To overcome addictions associated with traumatic stress
- To gain skills that prevent relapse
- To support individuals to adopt a more meaningful lifestyle
To achieve our goal we need your help, by supporting The Feed you will help us help more people off the street, into the kitchen and into sustainable employment.
