It takes a village
I run My Place Play Cafe in Romsey, Hampshire. I wanted to create a space where people caring for small humans could have a conversation with friends or finish a hot drink while their children play. There are lots of soft plays and classes available but none have staff to supervise while you take a small amount of me time. Self-care is not selfish. It's vital for you to be the best parent / carer you can be. We need connections and conversations with other adults and you can't always do this with small humans in tow.
I found this out the hard way. After having my son I was very lucky to have maternity leave and find a great bunch of friends via the NCT. However, no class really prepares you for how lonely or anxious you may feel. Getting out of the house can be a huge challenge with sleep deprivation and poonamis.
So our cafe has become a popular venue for those who quite frankly, just want to finish a conversation with a friend.
Mobile co-working cafe
The way people work has changed. We want to add a co-working space so you can come and get some work done. Perhaps its the school holidays, you work from home, you run your own business or your childcare has fallen through. A family-friendly co-working space would be very welcome for a host of reasons. We also want to become mobile so we can take this experience to other venues.
