6th February 2006, The Soul Project was created. SOUL standing for Support Our Unique Londoners.
Our main aim engaging young people in positive activities, to promote social inclusion, and diverting them away from antisocial and offending behaviour.
Providing a safe place for young people to meet with their friends, have fun and take part in activities that will help develop employability skills and raise their education attainment.
Our Family Activity Center based in Walthamstow had a music / video studio, radio station, events hall, Youth Space, mentoring / counselling rooms.
Located on the ground floor was Tumble In The Jungle, a soft play area for children under 8 and their families.
A place for children's birthday parties, themed events, a sensory room and so much more. This was the business side of things that generated an income so that we could provide the activities for the older children free.
This community space has now been going for 12 years, now formally know as The FAMILY ACTIVITY CENTER.
Unfortunately in December 2014, our landlords sold the building to property developers without our knowledge. The building then exchanged hands and the new developers has asked us to vacate the building for the development of luxury apartments.
(That's the situation in brief, but more complex than that and has been a 3 year battle)
As we are committed in continuing providing services for young people within the borough, we will be moving into temporary offices. From there we will hire various venues to continue our activities.
As you can imagine this will incur extra costs, and as we want to continue to FREE services for young people we are reaching out for your help.
Please help us to continue our work, and hopefully re-establish our famous Tumble In The Jungle within the borough and within the near future.
£10,000 will help us keep our services going while we try to find a new permanent base.
