I have lived and worked in Fairford for over 19 years and have seen many changes. As such I've seen Fairford grow in population & diversity, especially over the last five years and as such, I feel it's even more important to maintain the wonderful community spirit that I experienced when I first moved to the town.
As such, the Charity Fair, aims to bring the Community and local villages together in a fun and memorable way whilst helping to raise much needed funds for local causes.
The first Charity Fair took place last October and despite the shocking weather, the event was a huge success. People came all day to show their support for Poppy & Eleri and together we raised over £8,100, which was fantastic for a small town. The families were simply overwhelmed by the support shown on the day and which continues to be shown.
With a fabulous network of friends & family (I couldn't do it without!), I hope that this year's event is just if not more successful than last years, so that we can help the following worthy causes:
CHASING DRAGONFLIES Fairford Church of England Primary School provide wrap around care for families and children in the community. However, some children need more help and Chasing Dragonflies provides this through play therapy at Fairford Primary. A typical block of 12 sessions costs £780 and whilst it has been possible to fund this historically, budgets cuts are an issue. These children need vital funds to support their well-being. The therapy Chasing Dragonflies provides is transformational for those that need it. It is crucial these children are given the opportunity to explore their emotions, control anxieties and deal with trauma in order to make them stronger and cope much better with life.
Shine Bright Support is a new, locally formed Charity with very big ambitions aiming to provide mental health support for children and their families affected by childhood cancer. In March last year, Eleri, the daughter of one of the trustees, was diagnosed with a very rare form of primary bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. The family learned that while the medical provision is excellent, due to lack of NHS resources, there is little or no mental health support provided. Shine Bright Support aims to fill this gap by funding mental health services so that these children and their families have somewhere to turn to during a very upsetting and challenging time. The scars of childhood cancer run deep. Shine Bright Support want to help families so they can move forward with their lives, preventing this horrendous disease taking more than it already has and engulfing their future as well as their past.
