Play to the Crowd, the arts and education charity responsible for our beloved Theatre Royal and Hat Fair Festival in Winchester, has been financially devastated by the COVID crisis, and unless it manages to raise sufficient funds in the next few weeks it will disappear.
The charity is a source of so much joy in our community through its support of local groups, arts education, young people and artists, not to mention the fantastic programme of theatrical entertainment it hosts year-round; and its loss would be a terrible blow for the city.
There's the wonderful Hat Fair - as lucky Winchester residents my family and I never ever miss it, and last year I even spent the festival weekend as a volunteer. Plus, as mum to a drama-mad teenager I've swelled with pride twice a year as he and his ensemble graced the Theatre Royal stage, thanks to the Playmakers programme. And as wardrobe mistress for Winchester Musicals and Opera Society (WMOS), I've had the privilege of seeing my costume creations brought to life there many times.
But COVID has meant no costumes to be sewn this year, so instead I've been making face coverings for family and friends. And until we're back on the stage I'll keep at it...
These pleated designs are lightweight, easy-care, super-breathable AND don’t cause the dreaded speccy fog! In line with WHO guidelines they are 3-layer, lined with 100% cotton and incorporate a non-woven filter; they have lots of face room so great for those with beards, and are fitted with adjustable soft jersey earloops. Fabrics are all pre-loved and pre-washed, some vintage. Most are washable at 40 degrees, except silk ones which are hand wash only.
Please message me for fabric options and any other questions you might have.
Suggested donation: £5 for a pleated cotton, £8 for a silk.
